Birch Plywood Alliance to European decisionmakers: “Increased tariffs would be the last nail in our coffins”

On 11 May 2021, the Birch Plywood Alliance sent its first letter to European decisionmakers through which it expressed its concerns regarding the ongoing anti-dumping case conducted by the European Commission into the import of certain types of birch plywood from the Russian Federation. The letter was sent a couple of days ahead of the pre-disclosure announcement and was addressed to the European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis as well as the Commissioner in charge of the Internal Market and Industry, Thierry Breton. The relevant Commission departments working on the case as well as the representatives from EU Member States working on anti-dumping/trade defence issues – who will ultimately be voting on the duties – have also received the letter.
